It’s that time of year to honor all Moms!
By now you all should know that back in Napoli, I learned the way around the kitchen by watching my mother and grandmother while they were cooking the most important family meals: the Holidays meals, the celebration meals, the everyday meals. And even on their special day “la Festa della Mamma”, both women not only kept cooking but made an effort to make that meal even more “special”. All the Italian Moms were like that. Cooking was their way to express their love and to thank everyone who was in their life.
So when I got to America I was very surprised to see how things were handled different here. The ‘Mama Day’ was a very special day for them. They don’t cook; they don’t lift or wash a plate. They were treated to a special dinner where they were celebrated as they deserve for all their sacrifice. And I thought that was nice for once Moms can just enjoy be together with their loved ones and not be worried about anything.
Mother’s Day is a great tradition and we at DueLire will love to express our gratitude creating a special menu for them. A menu where every dish is expression our love for food and the reason why we love food so deeply: Mamma.
They inspired us, gave us love and passion for the simple things in life. And good food is one of those things.
I will always thank my Mom for been able to give so much without expecting too much in return. Maybe a simple hug or a smile would make her eyes lighten up like the full moon in during a beautiful summer night.
Love you, Mom!
Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms this weekend!
