Join us for a summertime treat: Sangria! It’s more than just a typical sangria, this recipe is a staple in every household in southern Italy. “Vino con Pesche”, or wine with peaches, is a very simple approach to a refreshing fruity summer drink. Start with white wine and summer fruits like peaches or apricots. Very very Italian!
I grew up waiting for the beginning of the season just to have a glass of this amazing refreshing beverage before starting my Sunday lunch with my family. And I won’t tell how old I was! We start with fresh, ripe peaches and apricots, then slice and macerate with brown sugar, fresh lemon juice, orange liquor (Cointreau or Grand Marnier), and a touch of Aperol (an Italian bitter). Let them soak for 2 days in a blend of dry and sweet white wine, like Vermentino, Verdicchio or Orvieto Amabile. Pour over ice and garnish with candied mint. This drink is less sweet than traditional Sangria. It is drier, crisper and a more sunny “summery” fresh fruit flavor. And, beware when you eat those peaches or apricots. They will get to your head fast!
Stop by for a glass!
